Boek: En Morgen Nog Een Keer

Book: ‘And Once Again Tomorrow’
I had the pleasure of working on a beautiful book about the exciting adventures that children with curly, afro or frizzy hair experience every morning. From brushes and combs to creams and oils, this story is a celebration of the ups and downs of hair care, full of moments of recognition or maybe even an eye-opening peek into a whole new world.
In early October I hosted a fun, hands-on workshop at Athenaeum bookstore in the Bijlmer, where kids got to paint and decorate their very own afro combs after the author did a live reading session. Be sure to scroll all the way down and see the colorful result of that afternoon!

As for character development, one thing was clear: the hair needed to be BIG. In my initial sketches my character looked a bit younger, but after a thoughtful discussion with Esohe and the Publisher, we agreed she should have the vibe of an 8 or 9-year-old—just the right age to capture that mix of innocence and growing individuality.

As for the outfit, I experimented with a few different looks, but it didn’t take long for us to land on the perfect combination: a simple hoodie and jeans. We wanted her style to feel natural and unpretentious—nothing too trendy or over-the-top. After all, the real star of the story was her hair, and we didn't want anything to steal the spotlight.
